When Will The World End?

No one knows for sure when the end of the world will happen, but that certainly hasn't stopped people from trying to figure it out. Some say it'll be when Jesus returns, others think it'll be a massive natural disaster. So what's the truth? Who knows! But in the meantime, there's plenty of theories about how and why the end of days might come. Want to know more? Read on!

1. The Theories About The End of the World.

There are three theories about how the end of the world will happen.

The first is that Jesus, son of God and messiah, will return to Earth. This could be something like rapture, where everyone apart from those who follow him will die. Alternatively, it could mean that everything but Christians are wiped out or sent into exile - this would allow them to live their lives as usual until the moment when they're killed. Others believe that there'll be a fight between good and evil with humans caught in the middle - maybe not quite as bad as what happened during Armageddon (which means 'the place where God's final battle takes place' by the way) but enough to make life very unpleasant for those who don't take part .

The other theory is that the Earth will be hit by a meteor, or maybe even three (convenient, right?). One of NASA's early astronomers called Daniel Whitmire speculated this would happen.

'It is not impossible to imagine that in about 10 million years [from now], a star could approach our solar system and impact one of the planets,' he said in a paper published in 1978.

Whitmire has since retired from teaching, but others have taken up his research into what might happen if a big rock was heading towards earth full-speed ahead, so watch out for that!

The third prediction isn't actually someone who thought it up - it's a passage from the Bible, and is known as 'the prophecy of the Popes'. It dates back to around 830 AD and was meant to tell people how long each pope would reign for. However, some theorists think that because there isn't an obvious pattern between each prediction (maybe one line means something different than another), it's actually predicting natural disasters instead of popes who don't die in office.

As you've probably guessed by now, there are loads more theories about exactly where or when the end of days will come, but not everyone agrees with them so we're not going into those! Instead, let's move on to a slightly less depressing topic: how you can prepare for Doomsday.

2) The Book Of Revelations

Titled after the last book in the New Testament, most people think this is another name for Armageddon. It's got loads of imagery about war across the world, plagues that wipe out large populations and generally just makes life sound very unpleasant . Basically, it was all written by John of Patmos, who wanted to create a sense of hope and promise - hey, we might not be able to avoid terrible things happening but we can end up as better people through it! Kinda like how you wouldn't know the point of The Hunger Games without seeing how Peeta and Katniss save Panem at the end.

But there's another way to read 'Revelations' rather than as a tale of doom and gloom: as a way to find out what's going to happen before it actually does.

3) How To Prepare For The End Of The World

If you're worried about the end of the world, there are some things that might help. Firstly, the experts at MoneySuperMarket found that people who buy five year survival kits aren't just being alarmist - they're seriously thinking ahead .

The study also found that 64% of those surveyed were starting to stockpile food in case anything happens, with another quarter looking at buying equipment for self-defence (hey, if everyone is fighting everyone else on their own land then protecting your family could be pretty important). Meanwhile 71% wanted, or planned on having , a stockpile of medicine.

We should point out that it's best to be prepared you don't actually need them, because this could lead to stress which is bad for your health.

4) What To Do If You Find Out That The End Of The World Is Coming Soon

Of course, maybe the end of the world isn't coming but instead something bad has happened. ie. your country's got into a war or an epidemic spreads throughout your city/country/planet (definitely not ruling out disease). Or maybe there's been some sort of natural disaster like an earthquake or tsunami which means people are really struggling - it definitely wouldn't hurt to donate to charities who support those affected by disasters (they could even help with emergency supplies or rebuilding afterwards).

5) How To Cope With The Anxiety And Stress That Comes With Worrying About The End Of The World

We're back to the experts again, this time around it's to do with how your mind handles stress. Apparently, worrying about things can be constructive - if you imagine worst case scenario then plan what to do if it happens, you'll feel more in control of the situation . And being prepared for anything might just help you cope!

6) How To Live Your Life In Spite Of Knowing That The End Of The World Is Coming Soon

This is one of those things that will probably take time (and plenty of practice!) to master but there ways to make life easier.

First of all, prioritise what you need to spend money on. If earning a living is the most important thing then make sure you don't blow your wages if Doomsday does come! And secondly, split up your time between anyone/anything you care about . So it may be worth seeing family and friends more often or going out for that long walk you've been promising yourself since forever - there's no point spending every second regretting the end of the world so remember to enjoy some of those moments as well as prepare for others.

And, finally, always keep in mind that even though Doomsday might be coming it doesn't have to stay with us forever . We could focus on how we'd survive but why not think about where we'll be after it happens? Maybe you'll escape the planet and live on a bright, sunny moon (you might even get to build your own space colony!) or maybe we'll finally discover how to upload our minds into robots. If we're going down then why not go out with a bang?
