Buy Organic - It's Not Just For Hippies

One thing that has changed a lot over the last few decades is our buying habits. We've gained a lot of experience buying on the internet, at our local grocery store, and now, thanks to green harvesting and Beefeaters For Life, we can find incredibly high quality organic produce that is sold at our local supermarket - and it is actually much cheaper than the norm.
Everyone is talking about "going organic," and how it affects the environment. What does organic actually mean?
Based on "common knowledge," "organic" means that harmful pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics, and hormones are not used on the plants or animals we eat. But what is truly organic? Here is a definition from the Weston A. Price Foundation:
"Organic refers to a method of producing and eating food that preserves and improves the quality of animal's tissues while minimizing the harm to the environment. Organic farming does not use nor apply artificial mixes, pesticides, chemical fertilizers, antibiotics, growth hormones, irradiation, nor synthetic additives, nor genetically modified materials."
Common denominator? Healthy animals. That's important! No pesticides or chemicals to make them healthy-at least not in the fields or on the food that ends up on our plates. No antibiotics to make them grow-ardo is the key here. And also, no genetically modified materials (GMOs) to make them grow bigger, fatter, and stronger.
While it may be true that organic produce contains less pesticide residue than conventional, it may also contain some amounts of pesticides, fertilizers, and hormones that, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, are "un decidedly safe." For kids, parents, and teachers there are organic sprays and organic dog foods available.
Organic and conventional dairy differences:
On a positive note, organic dairy products have less added hormones than conventional dairy products do-and, again, are free from added GMOs. However, if you're going to drink milk, it would be wise to choose organic dairy products. Remember, too, that the milk-laden treats in the supermarket are strictly for grown-ups and therefore carry the risk of higher fat, increased cholesterol, and increased risk of heart disease.
Conventionally raised meats:
Local beef, conventionally raised pork, and Goose & Turkeys taste pretty much the same, and are nearly identical in terms of preparation, require large quantities of antibiotics, and have greater fat contents than the corresponding "organic" alternatives.
As the USDA makes changes and removes contaminants, we must be aware of what we're eating and how it's produced. Today, we have more choices when choosing our food, no longer just one or two options, but a plethora of choices. Every day, more and more options!
We must use these changes to advantage our personal and environmental health, and to work towards a world without poisons and poisons in our food, water, and air.
Final point:
Today's "organic" foods are almost entirely comprised of GMO crops. What does this mean for our overall nutrition and health?
For the following reasons:
GMO crops global flooding our crops with pesticide weeds; where non-GMO leaves and weeds are tolerated, they are genetically engineered to resist pesticides, but don't sprout and reproduce.
GMO crops also create "super weeds" or plant strains that grow quickly and become resistant to pesticides.
GMO crops are highly resistant to pest-killing chemicals, but adversely affect the surrounding flora and fauna.
Nutrient-poor non-GMO crops are also extensively sprayed with Roundup, a chemical-ridden Roundup Ready herbicide or Senseller, a spin-off from the Monsanto Corporation.
These and other practices used in conventional agriculture contribute to the onset of many of the world's health problems, from cancer and arteries calcification to hormone disruption, disruption of crucial cell processes, and increases in miscarriages and early pregnancies, just to name a few.
Consumers are weary of what they perceive as a slow and lingering death sentence. They are more apt to accept the scientific facts that contrary to popular belief, GMO foods are not food and do not provide any health benefits.
Last but not least, and this out of this fathomable category, comes in the form of Artificial Vitamins and Minerals. The jury may still be out on whether this outrageous product is actually furthering our health or destroying it, but one thing is certain: We don't need any of this. We enjoy Real Food. Real Food is nature, and nature is what sustains us.
Most of the so-called 'added vitamins' and minerals are only slightly different FromShedding down' the fatty tissues and maintaining their homeostasis'!!
Today's processed and refined foods should really be classified as Junk Food.
